Would you put an eye-ring on your eyeball?

We have lots of different kinds of jewelry, bracelet for our wrists, piercing for our nose, ring for our fingers, earrings for our ears and lots of others. But we don't have one for our eyes, do we? Well, now we do. Check out the picture below:

This thing has existed for quiet some time but I don't think we could find one here in Malaysia. It's known as eyeball jewelry or extraocular implant. I wonder which sounds more attractive, eyeball jewelry or extraocular implant?

It was first developed in Netherlands back in 2002. The Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery claims that it does not interfere with the ocular functions, i.e. the visual performance and mobility, and patient satisfaction remains high with no side effects noticed after a follow-up of more than one year.

The procedure requires that both eyes be immobilized with anesthetic drops, and that the layers of the eyeball where the implant is situated to be separated by the injection of liquid. That definitely sounds safe and not risky at all right? Take a look at this video for proof

Totally safe

Currently there's only one company which supplies the alloy implant in various shapes such as the heart, clover, music notes or star. You can also get it custom made with a shape of your choice. They even came up with an exquisite name for it, JewelEye.

If you fancy getting one, then you will have to travel to Netherlands since it's about the only country where the legality of the procedure is certain and some countries have unfortunately banned it.

But there's another alternative if you want to wear jewelry on your eyeball.

Designer Eric Klarenbeek shows us his jewelry contact lenses in this video:

Apparently you can get this thing in London so no need to travel to Netherlands

At least this way you won't need to perform surgery if you're afraid of one. You can still have beautiful jewelry hanging from your eyeball. Awesome.
